The 5th digit varied J = base, T = L82, Z = big block

Corvette history:  The only year that chrome bumpers were only on the rear. The new soft bumpers were color coded to match the exterior. There was more room for luggage, as the back window was no longer removable. With steel belted radials offered as an option along with luggage racks, some '73 vettes actually treked through the snow for weekend ski trips.
